Perfume Notes and your Body Chemistry

Finding the right perfume for your body chemistry and how perfumes work.

Here are a few things that will help you in deciding which fragrance to try. I personally do not buy perfumes unless, I am very certain it will react well with my body chemistry.

Perfumes have layered notes or scents, and the most lingering notes, the ones that change with your body chemistry, take more than a short spray on scent card, at least this is true for myself.

How perfumes work.

Perfume notes, and how to identify them, to determine the scent to try.

Top Note:

The top note is usually what sells us. It’s that assertive first impression. It is the scent that evaporates quickly. It’s the scent we first smell, and it is the fragrance that is first to affect the brain.
Middle Note:

Middle notes develop quickly, after the top notes begin to fade. Middle notes balance the top notes, and take up to 10-30 minutes to fully develop. The middle notes make up most of the perfume, and are considered the heart of the fragrance. Middle notes ground and smooth out the base notes.

 Base  Note:

Base notes take 20 to 30 minutes for a scent to fully develop.Base notes last the longest. Base notes will be the heaviest scent. It’s the scent people smell when you’re  walking by. It’s the one they stop you to ask,”What perfume are you wearing?”

The Problem:

Sampling perfumes before purchasing takes more than 5 minutes.Standing  at a perfume counter doesn’t give us enough time to know if it is the right fragrance for our body chemistry. The base note does not develop for 20 to 30 minutes.

The right perfume for your body chemistry is unique to every woman and man. Chemicals, hormones, the time of the month can affect the way a perfume smells on your skin. If you want a good way to test the fragrances you’ve always wanted try, I suggest purchasing a small 1 ml vial sample.  In even the smallest sample there is enough perfume to allow you to fully develop the scent on your skin. Vials are available at My Perfume The offerings are  1 ounce vials to 3 ounce spray, which come in collections too, at a very affordable price. These perfumes are guaranteed 100% genuine and undiluted fragrances.

What’s my personal experience with fragrances and my body chemistry?

My personal experience is, as much as I love lemon and citrus, if I choose a perfume with a sharp top note, without a balancing or heavier middle or base note, I can bet you money, I will be smelling like bug spray in about 5 minutes. That’s just me.

Fragrance suggestions for hot sweaty days.

Ah, the beach fragrance. Evoking the smell of the sun on sand soaked skin, fresh marine breezes and salt spray. Whether you are at the beach or not, you can evoke that feeling of the waves with the right perfume for you.

  1. I love Aqua di Gioia. I have a little left, it is so expensive. I used Versace Bright Crystal for a couple of years. I have some Marc Jacobs Honey simply because the bottle gives me a lift. My go to is DKNY Green Apple…I spray it on everything.

My body chemistry is odd…it must be the perfume carriers, most scents turn acrid on me. I cannot wear more inexpensive perfumes.

    • Same here, except for SKIN musk oil which I love. I like to layer scents, like bath and body works. The floral doesn’t turn sharp at all. Because my skin is so picky, I was really excited to find samples of designer fragrances.
p.s.For men, I absolutely love the smell of Dolce & Gabbana.
